FRIDAY 3RD JULY 2026 – RACE REPORT BY NARNI
There once were two trail Queens,
Narni and Rachel, lean-running machines;
They’d happily chew
Through an ultra or two,
And call marathons “shortish routines.”
From Stocksbridge they travelled with pride,
With lungs full of grit deep inside;
But instead of all day,
They were asked, “just 5K?”
And both felt personally lied.
At DonFaster, Friday the third,
Danum Harriers announced the word;
“It’s flat, fast, and fun!”
They set off at a run,
Then discovered that ‘fun’ was absurd.
The evening was warm, close, and muggy,
The air rather sweaty and sluggy;
Each breath was a chore,
Each lap hurt some more,
And the finish looked distant and smudgy.
Narni flew round like a dart,
Though 5Ks are cruel from the start;
In twenty-one eight,
She smashed through the gate,
With a PB and record-book art.
Then Rachel, with steel in her stride,
Put her own F40 mark aside;
She battered the clock,
Gave the record a knock,
And left it with nowhere to hide.
They’re built for the long road and trail,
For hills, snacks, headtorches, and hail;
But this short sharp attack
Nearly sent breakfast back,
Though thankfully nobody went pale.
So cheers to the pair in club fame,
Who made DonFaster live up to its name;
They suffered, they flew,
Broke records times two,
And may never trust ‘just 5K’ again.
