2nd November 2025 RACE REPORT BY NARNI FULFORD
Another cold crisp morning and the SRC contingent shuttled en-masse off towards Kimberworth for the Canal race; part of a series hosted by Kimberworth Striders, and one which formed part of SRC’s Grand Prix. Just over 8km and largely flat, this course had the potential for some seriously fast times; the weather was clear and conditions were ideal. The usual bunch of reprobates gathered at the start to retrieve numbers, and were delighted to be joined by Nick as a last minute rogue entry, having conquered his cold only a few days before. Helen and JP were sporting matching Vaga caps (of course they were), Amy was looking super professional doing a proper warm up, and Narni was marching around in a large green fake dryrobe (purloined from JP), and generally being a nuisance. Newbie 2nd claim James took our photo (didn’t we look snazzy), and we arranged ourselves accordingly on the start line.
The first part of the route was quite narrow on congested, but no matter; we ducked and weaved our way through the crowds, and tried to congratulate ourselves on a job well done for collectively having opted to wear trail shoes the night before. Off the grass and onto the canal path proper, and already the super speedy contingent were starting to come back towards us, having hit the halfway mark in record time. We panted our way back towards Blackburn Nature reserve (several swans accompanied us in in magestic style), swooping towards the Don and back again before we looped round to the finish.
A brilliant time was had by all – results as follows:
JP 33:14 (16th!)
Helen 38:58 (1st V45!)
Nick W 39:29
Narni 40:01
James (2nd claim) 40:02
Amy 41:02
