Stocksbridge Running Club was formed in 2023, with the help and support of Stocksbridge Park Steels Football Club. Before the formation of SRC, runners wanting to be part of any running club had to travel out of the area, either by car or public transport: with running as popular as ever, the demand for a local running club had never been stronger. Our main disciplines are road and trail running. We also compete in cross country and OCR, and embrace any form of activity that gets us moving! We are proud to be a club of diverse age and ability: we love to champion each and every achievement of our club members, from the first park run to the umpteenth ultra.
Originally working with the town’s football club (Stocksbridge Park Steels) the running club was born, and by being able to tap in to the facilities as well as having the same senior officials it allowed the club to get off the ground very quickly. Our first logo was based on the football clubs logo, with a runner replacing the SPS on the clock tower – we added the crest of the football club into circles with our name and founding year on it.
The club is affiliated with England Athletics and began hosting their running group nights on a Monday in May 2023. In our first year we grew to over 30 members and now have two groups on a Monday, plus an informal social run on a Thursday. An active whatsapp group keeps local runners connected, and there’s always a fellow SRC member or two to be found on the local trails. All group runs are held on the local roads and footpaths of Stocksbridge and surrounding areas. 2024 saw the launch of our new club colours; maroon, gold and white. The new logo was an updated version of our first logo, but with the addition of a female runner to show we have as many female as male members.
We are proud to be the town’s first England Affiliated road running club, the last club in the town was the Stocksbridge Pace Setters and we are proud to follow in their footsteps.
